Monday Mindfulness Week 1- Patience

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to sit around, think, and worry. “Am I advertising right?” “Am I turning off potential clients?” “What about money?” Around and around I went; late at night, early in the morning, at random times. It wasn’t great.

Also this weekend, I had the opportunity to talk to my fiancee about my worries. She said that her “immediate gratification” was that we are able to connect so much more because I am so much more “present in your own life.” (Her phrase, I’m using it from now on). As I have practiced mindfulness over the past few days, I have been struck about how important patience is. Patience, according to Jon Kabat-Zinn, is at the foundation of mindfulness practice.  Patience is a form of wisdom. It gives us the opportunity to recognize that things happen in their own time. In time, I will be successful with this venture. This worry and anxiety will pass, in time. In the meantime, my learning is how to be more present in my life. As I am more present, my attention and emotion is less constricted. I am able to stop staring at my own worries and connect with those around me. As you go through your day, I hope you’re able to pause, take a breath, and sprinkle a little patience into your life.
